Although the "Church of the Nazarene" is more than 100 years old, our local parish in Castro Valley began some years later in 1926 (wow, that seems like a long time ago.. but, believe me we are newer than ever. So, from a small gathering... we have now grown to a thriving community church. In addition, we would like you to always feel welcome to stop by and visit. The services on Sunday and during the week are meant to practically assist you in your life, work and family as well as bring inspiration and encouragement. We have a variety of happenings and events in a schedule that is always new. There are get-togethers and ministries for adults, youth, children, singles, Spanish, Chinese, Somoan, Russian and more. Our church has always put a high premium on education and that is reflected in our many colleges and universities plus we even have an online Bible School for our website. Just click on the Education link above and see what we mean. ![]() Speaking of opportunities, there are many places you can find to use the talents and abilities God has given you. Our community is filled with meaningful and fun activities. We are sure you will be able to join us for the many events all year long.
Castro Valley itself is
located on 15.8 square miles of land, and is Northern California’s
largest unincorporated community. While small shops are located in
several neighborhoods, the primary business districts are concentrated
along Castro Valley Boulevard and Redwood Road. Costanoan
Indians lived in the area before the arrival in the 1800s of Don
Guillermo Castro, from whom the community took its name. Castro was a
soldier and surveyor with the Mexican army who received a land grant of
27,000 acres. The grant encompassed what is now Castro Valley and
Hayward. That
rural atmosphere remains today. There is a continued interest in horse
breeding, showing and riding for fun and profit. Plentiful flower, fruit
and vegetable gardens also help retain the rustic ambience. Several
neighborhoods still lack sidewalks and boast oversize lots. The recent opening of the Castro Valley BART station presented local residents with a new commute alternative to the busy Interstate 580 corridor.
